The kit that turns a week of hedges into a day
Anything more than a domestic hedge is a machine job. Field boundaries, roadside verges, ditch banks, estate perimeters, business park frontages and long amenity runs all get away from a hand crew very quickly, and the cost of trying to keep on top of them by hand is what usually pushes people to ring about a tractor and flail in the first place.
We supply the tractor, the flail and an operator who does this for a living. The reach arm gets over ditches and up banks, the flail handles growth that would stop a trimmer, and the whole run gets cut to a consistent line rather than a slightly different one every time somebody new picks up the shears. Arisings can be left, mulched or collected depending on what the site is and who is looking at it.
This is the same kit and the same crews that deliver our vegetation management contracts, so if what you actually want is the hedges, verges and margins kept right all year rather than one visit, we can just put the site on a programme instead. Most clients end up there eventually, because a planned cut at the right point in the season is cheaper than an emergency one in August.

Programmed around the season
Hedge cutting has a season, and the legal and ecological constraints are real. We plan the work for when it should happen rather than when the phone rings, which is both cheaper and less likely to cause you a problem.
Nesting birds checked

Reach over ditches and banks
The reach arm is the point. Ditch banks, watercourse margins and steep verges get cut properly from the tractor instead of being left because nobody could safely get to them.
Day rate or by the length
A short job is a day rate. If you have a defined length of hedge or verge, we will price it against the job so the number is fixed before we start.

Tractor Hedge Cutting — frequently asked questions
Can I hire the tractor and hedge cutter without a driver?
No. The tractor and flail goes out with one of our operators. A reach arm flail alongside a road, a ditch or a boundary is not a machine to put an unfamiliar driver on, and honestly the output difference is so large that operated work is usually cheaper per metre anyway. If you want dry hire, our tracked post knocker can go out that way.
When can hedges legally be cut?
The general position is that hedge cutting is avoided during the bird nesting season, which broadly runs March to August, and for many landowners there are also cross compliance or scheme rules that set specific dates. Most hedge work is therefore programmed for autumn and winter. Where a cut genuinely has to happen in season, for sight lines or safety, we check for active nests first and work to what we find.
Can you cut ditch banks and verges as well as hedges?
Yes, and it is a lot of what the machine does. Ditch banks, watercourse margins, roadside verges, sight lines at junctions and rough grass all get cut with the same tractor and flail. If the ditch itself has silted up and stopped draining, that is a different job and you want our ditch clearance page.
What happens to the cuttings?
On most hedge and verge work the arisings are flailed fine and left in place, which is normal and cheapest. Where the site is customer facing, or the volume is heavy, we can cut and collect instead and cart the material away. Tell us which you need when you ask for a price, because it changes the figure.
Do you do one off cuts or only contracts?
Both. Plenty of clients book a single cut, especially the first time. If you have recurring boundaries, a seasonal programme almost always works out cheaper than repeated call outs, so we will usually quote you both and let you pick.
What does it cost?
