What we do

Built for sites where the paperwork comes first

On a highways or infrastructure scheme the work itself is rarely the hard part — pre-qualification, method statements, permits, traffic management interfaces and evidence are. GGT is set up for that end of the market. We are registered to National Highways Sector Scheme 18, the sector quality scheme covering landscape and ecology works on the highways network, and hold CHAS, Constructionline Gold, Achilles UVDB and ISO 9001 with £10 million public liability cover.

We deliver boundary, security and mitigation fencing, verge and embankment vegetation clearance, tree and scrub clearance and ecological exclusion fencing for main contractors and asset owners. We have worked live corridors: fencing for Kier on the A585 Windy Harbour to Skippool bypass, signed off without remedials; tree and vegetation clearance on the M6 at Lune Gorge, cleared to highways access and safety spec with arisings chipped on site; and mammal and exclusion fencing on the M55 to ecological specification.

Because our own crews and plant do the work, we are one package rather than three subcontractors. On a corridor scheme that usually means the vegetation comes off the line, the fence goes in behind it and the ground gets reinstated without a handover gap in the middle — and with one set of records at the end.

How we work

Pre-qualified, planned, and evidenced

Pre-qualification ready

CHAS, Constructionline Gold, Achilles UVDB, ISO 9001 and NHSS 18, with £10m public liability. The PQQ pack exists and is current — we are not scrambling to assemble it after you ask.

Method before mobilisation

Task-specific method statements and risk assessments, ecology and nesting constraints identified, and our works planned around your traffic management and possession arrangements.

Own crews, own plant

Tracked machinery for embankments and soft verges, qualified arborists for tree work and experienced fencing teams — all in-house, so programme slippage is not caused by a missing subbie.

Records at handover

Photographic progress records, as-built information and completion documentation supplied in the format your project team and asset owner need.

Questions

Highways & Infrastructure — frequently asked questions

What is NHSS 18 and do you hold it?

National Highways Sector Scheme 18 is the sector-specific quality management scheme for landscape and ecology works on the highways network — it builds on ISO 9001 and is generally required for contractors delivering this work for National Highways and its supply chain. We are registered to it. In practice it means our processes for this type of work have been independently audited, which is exactly what a principal contractor is looking for at pre-qualification.

Which accreditations do you hold for pre-qualification?

CHAS, Constructionline Gold, Achilles UVDB, ISO 9001 and National Highways Sector Scheme 18, with £10 million public liability cover. Our operatives hold the relevant CSCS, NPORS and NPTC / City & Guilds tickets for the plant and arboricultural work they carry out. We can supply the full pre-qualification pack on request.

Have you worked on live highways corridors?

Yes. We delivered fencing for Kier on the A585 Windy Harbour to Skippool bypass, which was signed off without remedials, carried out tree and vegetation clearance on the M6 at Lune Gorge, and installed mammal and exclusion fencing on the M55 to ecological specification. All three are on our projects page with the detail.

Can you handle the ecology package as well as the fencing?

Yes — it is one of the reasons main contractors use us. NHSS 18 covers landscape and ecology specifically, and we install protected species and exclusion fencing to the ecologist’s method statement with full photographic and as-built records. See ecological fencing for how we run that work.

How do you handle traffic management?

We plan our works around the traffic management and access arrangements set by the principal contractor or asset owner, and build them into our method statements and programme. Where a scheme needs specific arrangements in place before we can work the verge or the corridor, we agree those at planning stage rather than turning up and finding out.

Do you work outside the North West?

Our base is Blackpool and the bulk of our work is the North West, but on infrastructure schemes and specialist packages — particularly ecological fencing — we travel. Tell us the location and the scheme and we will give you a straight answer on whether we are the right contractor for it.
